My Norwegian Knitting Patterns

A few people have asked about the patterns for my Norwegian sweaters, so I thought it would be easiest to gather them all in one place! Several are in Norwegian, but you can probably use AI to translate them if you need to.

These are all knit bottom up, and as with most traditional Norwegian sweaters you do have to steek the armholes.

I bought Une’s book Fargerik Turstrikk because I loved this sweater, and now her book is available in English too!

This is a great beginner sweater to knit because the pattern repeats every six stitches, so it’s easy to memorize each round instead of reading the pattern the entire time you’re knitting.

I knit this in Rauma Fivel yarn, which has lots of lovely colors. And again, it’s an easy yarn for beginners because it’s quite sticky.

This is another pattern from Une’s book, and also quite simple.

I knitted this one in Hillesvåg Luna yarn. I actually walked all over Bergen on a hot July day trying to find a yarn shop that carried Luna in pastel pink, and I’m so glad I did because this is probably my favorite pink color I’ve knitted with.

Alpeglød by Minmote x Ingrid Raadim

This pattern is a rerelease of an old Dale sweater pattern, which I found for free here. I gave this sweater to my friend Alicia, but of course I had to make her pose for a few photos in it before she could have it!

I knitted this in Du Store Alpakka Sterk yarn, but if I were to knit this one again I think I would use Sandnes Peer Gynt instead, because I prefer the look and warmth of 100% wool.

I came across this snowflake sweater pattern on Ravelry and immediately loved it. And sure enough it now is one of my favorite sweaters. But it was also quite a pain to knit, because it’s knitted entirely flat, which is slow going when purling stranded colorwork. But it was worth the extra effort!

I knitted this in Sandnes Alpakka Ull yarn, which wasn’t quite the right size, so I had to adjust the pattern a bit.

Reindeer Sweater

I found this retro pattern on Etsy here. I knit it in Filcolana Peruvian Highland Wool.

I sadly recently shrunk this sweater a bit in the wash, but I might knit it again because I love it so much!

Lillehammer ’94 Olympics Sweater by Dale

This is probably one of the most popular Norwegian sweater patterns of all time. You can find the pattern in English here. I see so many people wearing this sweater. It’s also the most intricate pattern I’ve knitted, as I had to read the pattern while knitting because the patterns didn’t repeat very often.

I knitted this in Sandnes Peer Gynt, and the purple yarn is Du Store Alpakka Sterk (I would have knit this entirely in Peer Gynt, but I really wanted to use this purple color).

Til Fjells Sweater by Sandnes

I knitted this sweater from an old pattern from a Sandness Til Fjells magazine from the 1980s. Sandnes publishes their expired patterns online for free but I couldn’t find this particular one so I uploaded my version here.

I knitted this with Peer Gynt yarn and I did alter the pattern a bit, making the arms straighter and instead of ribbing on the edges and neckline, I knit four rows and then ribbed four rows.
